A Century of Mikis Theodorakis – A Musical Tribute to the Life’s Work of One of the Most Influential Composers of the 20th Century
As part of the official Mikis Theodorakis Year 2025, an extraordinary concert evening honors the legacy of this iconic composer in all its richness and diversity.
At the heart of the program is a musical premiere:
For the first time ever, the complete music of Zorba the Greek – the work that became the musical soul of Greece – will be performed live, interpreted with the original instruments used in the legendary 1964 recording.
The sound of bouzoukis, lutes, and the delicate santouri blends seamlessly with clarinet, violin, and intricately woven orchestral arrangements, creating a powerful listening experience – a musical fusion of tradition and expressive artistry, full of passion and poetry.
The performance will be brought to life by Estoudiantina Neas Ionias – Greece’s most renowned traditional orchestra – under the artistic direction of Andreas Katsigiannis, a longtime companion and musical confidant of Theodorakis, personally entrusted by him with the re-orchestration of many of his works.
This event is part of the international celebration 100 Years of Mikis Theodorakis, commemorating the composer, humanist, and visionary whose music continues to inspire people around the world.
